elusive beauty

there's a kind of beauty that is so fleeting and so elusive that when we see it, we experience a deep sense of awe and wonder. a beauty that cannot be captured, such that when we try to recall the it, it eludes us and only the tinkling memory of the amazing experience is distilled. to know it distinctly would be to cause it to lose it's shimmering divine aura - humanize it and purge its mystery away, leaving it prosaic and naked. therein lies a paradox of knowledge. such beauty interests us, but when we pursue it, it becomes uninteresting and it is only when we don't pursue it, that it exists in its form.

that's why the song goes... "from a distance, the world looks blue and green..."
